does Light Therapy work?
Light therapy, or
Phototherapy, is the treatment of a disorder by exposure to specific wavelengths
of light using light-emitting diodes(LEDs). Photo-stimulation was first
discovered in the 1960s when European scientists began to use light beams
of specific wavelengths and frequencies to treat damaged cell tissues.
Today, that technology has been harnessed into portable, light-emitting
diodes(LEDs) hand-held units, and full-body units.Light is energy that
moves in a wave pattern. Light is also characterized by its wavelength
in the electromagnetic spectrum.
Visible wavelengths-Red, and Infrared, which is invisible to human eye, have been shown
to effect at least 24 different positive changes at a cellular level.
The red and infrared
diodes are absorbed by the skin, muscles, tissues, bone as well as working
at the physical cellular level. Visible red light, at wavelengths from
630 to 700 nm, is very beneficial in treating problems close to the surface
. Infrared light (800 to 1000nm) penetrates
deeper which makes it more effective for treating organs and provide relief
for ailments of bones, joints, deep muscle tissue.Although both red and
infrared wavelengths penetrate to different depths and affect tissues
differently, the therapeutic effects are similar.
T. Whelan, MD, professor of pediatric neurology and director of hyperbaric
medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, states: "LED treatment
has been a wonderful advancement," Dr. Whelan says. "LEDs don't
heat the tissues the way lasers do; because LED uses longer wavelength
(redder) near-infrared light, it penetrates the tissues deeper. And where
lasers are more pinpointed in their delivery, LED can treat the entire
body. That's useful for treating people with serious burns, crush injuries,
and complications of cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatment, where
large portions of the body are involved."
information about pain relief and wound healing please Read
the studies of LED therapy by NASA as mentioned above. NASA

absorb infrared light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate cellular
regeneration and pain relief.
"Doctors at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee have discovered
the healing power of light with the help of technology developed for NASA's
Space Shuttle. Using powerful light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, originally designed
for commercial plant growth research in space, scientists have found a way
to help patients here on Earth. Doctors are examining how this special lighting
technology helps hard-to-heal wounds, such as diabetic skin ulcers, serious
burns, and severe oral sores caused by chemotherapy and radiation. The
project includes laboratory and human trials, cleared by the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration and funded by a NASA Small Business Innovation Research
contract through the Technology Transfer Department at NASAs Marshall
Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala..." Do not apply light to an open
wound, as heat may stimulate circulation and cause bleeding. Read those studies

and give pain relief.
with Trigeminal neuralgia- nerve disorder that causes a stabbing or electric-shock-like
pain in parts of the face. "I have this painful condition and had
to carry around a slip of paper to hand to others because when it struck I
could not talk. I purchased the DPL from Emerson WorldWide and it changed
my life. My pain is relieved and the incidents are slowly going away completely.I
am recommending the DPL to others."
